   In Sierra Leone under the British rule, the British KILLED 90% of the population of the country. In Sri Lanka under the British rule were killed 6 million people leaving only 1 million Sri Lankans. In Sudan after 20 years of French occupation, 75% of the population was wiped out. In the 1880s Belgian monarch Leopold the 2nd murdered 12 MILLION Congolese. So before we bitch about how backward African countries are, think what they would be like if Europe hadn’t wiped out all the intelligence!!

   White people forget. Europeans forget. Don’t get me wrong – I’m a white, European girl. We western folk often bitch about Africa, make fun of it and say “the whole world has progressed, why are Africans still living in jungles, huts and raping each other?” Well, if it hadn’t been for European invasions and MASS genocides bigger than all our European wars put together, African countries would be way more civilised. Belgian Monarch Leopold the 2nd wiped out 12 MILLION Congolese ppl in 1885-1910!!

   You are right 10000%. I am European, however I am one of the few who know and remember what Congo went through in the late 1800s. The Belgian monarch Leopold the 2nd – he invaded Congo and murdered up to 12 MILLION people when he turned the country into a 25 year long work camp. People so often say “Oh, the whole word has progressed and only Africans live in jungles, rape and are HIV and poor”. But what would Africa look like WITHOUT European invasions??

    Real Kinshasa?! You mean that tiny upperclass bit between the river and the Gombe? With those clubs where you pay 10$ -15$ for a swim? Where is Bon Marché in this video?

    Once you get into the hill it’s a bit like that. I flew charter planes around africa all over for 3 years and have to say Kinshasa is safe, secure with any facility or service you could expect in most western cities.

    You can drive for an hour outta Kin and that’s what you’d get (reddish, dirt roads) It’s a fantastic country, where the best thing you can do is leave your ‘thoughts’, ‘ideas’ and ‘presumptions’ at your own border! Kinshasa (or rather DRC..) is life, stripped down to what is really important.. family, community, food and tradition…. and most of all.. progression (unfortunately, at whatever cost).

    I am surprised. My image about Congo and Subsaharan Africa as a whole was that of redish dirt roads, huts and lack of any facilities. Thanks for sharing
